Mayor Hendra Hidayat Urges Vigilance Against Digital Age Risks

In a powerful address at Al-Amanah Mosque, North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat urged the faithful to look to the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a moral compass in today’s digital world.

Family is where a child first encounters honesty, love, and responsibility

Marking the Maulid Nabi 1448 Hijri celebration, Hendra highlighted the vital role of prophetic values in fortifying the family unit against the growing challenges of modern technology.

According to Hendra, the celebration of Maulid Nabi should not be viewed as a formality, but as a catalyst for bringing the Prophet’s exemplary legacy to life. He underscored the critical role of the home in shaping the future generation.

“Family is where a child first encounters honesty, love, and responsibility. A resilient society begins with the strength of its families,” he expressed, during the event, Tuesday (9/1).

Hendra commended the mosque's committee for their dedication to enlivening the religious center. He emphasized, building a better city requires a strong collaboration between scholars, the government, and the public.

"In this gathering, titles do not matter—whether you have served in the past or are serving now. We stand here as equals, simply as servants of God," he explained.

Bambang Sugiyono, who heads the Al-Amanah Mosque board, lauded the Mayor’s presence as a source of inspiration for the community. This year’s celebration revolved around the theme of applying the Prophet’s virtues to contemporary family life.

The gathering included a spiritual discourse by KH Ridho Abdul Fattah, reinforcing the day's message.

“It aims to highlight how crucial it is to foster strong family foundations in an era of unprecedented technological growth,” he added.

Sugiyono noted that the mosque has been a cornerstone of the neighborhood since 1984, standing on government-owned land. Its growth over the years has been a testament to the community's spirit, with various renovations self-funded by the residents since 1986.

“We envision Al-Amanah as more than just a house of prayer. We want it to be a vibrant center for spiritual guidance, education, and economic growth for the entire Sunter Agung community,” he closed.
